ABOUT NORTH COUNTY CANCER FITNESS

The Heart of our
Mission

beach get together_edited.jpg

North County Cancer Fitness was created to be more than a fitness program—it was built to be a community.

We saw a need for a space where individuals impacted by cancer could come together to feel supported, understood, and empowered at every stage of the journey. A place where movement could help rebuild strength, connection could reduce isolation, and shared experiences could bring hope.

At NCCF, we believe that healing is not just physical—it’s emotional and social as well. That’s why our approach is centered around Body, Mind, and Soul, supporting the whole person through movement, education, and connection.

Today, NCCF continues to grow as a place where individuals can find strength, build meaningful relationships, and move forward—together.

Our Founders

ChatGPT Image May 1, 2026, 02_06_25 PM_e

North County Cancer Fitness was born from one woman’s determination to transform recovery after cancer.

After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, Deb Snyder of Oceanside, California, completed her treatment and began searching for a path forward—only to discover that no structured programs existed to help survivors safely rebuild their strength and return to an active life. As a lifelong athlete, she understood that healing required a new approach: one rooted in patience, intention, and respect for the body’s limits. It was a “new normal,” and she knew others would face the same challenge.

Rather than accept this gap in care, Deb chose to create a solution.

Together with her close friend Deb Pomeranz—who would become her steadfast partner in the mission—North County Cancer Fitness was established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Their vision was simple yet profound: to offer what they themselves had been missing—a supportive community, expert guidance, and a safe, empowering space where cancer survivors could rebuild strength with confidence.

Just two years after NCCF was founded, Deb Pomeranz faced her own unexpected diagnosis: stage 4 ovarian cancer. Deb Snyder and Deb Pomeranz passed away in 2016 and 2017, but their legacy endures in every life touched by NCCF. They championed a belief that continues to define this community: it’s not about never falling—it’s about rising again, on your own or with the support of others, and continuing forward. Because forward is the only direction there is.

Today, North County Cancer Fitness stands as a living tribute to their vision. It is a place where survivors reconnect with their bodies, restore their strength, and find support for the mind, body, and soul. Close your eyes and imagine a cancer survivor stepping forward with resilience and courage—guided by the words that remain at the heart of NCCF:

SLOW. STEADY. SAFE. STRONG.

NCCF has been key to building my strength, and the motivation from our trainers is priceless. My fracture risk has improved, and so has my quality of life—from confidently lifting my grandson to staying active with my older grandkids. Feeling strong, balanced, and energized keeps me coming back. —Cheri

Looking Ahead

Help Us Grow Our Vision

North County Cancer Fitness is a place for all people with cancer to thrive through fitness and social connection. It is where I met lifelong friends who keep coming back.

A few years ago, I took the lead when we lost both of our founders to the disease, and now I feel like I have the best of everything. I get to see my ‘besties,’ move my body, give back to others, help this wonderful non-profit, and have a ball doing it all.

What could be better than that?

Our Community Non-Profit Board

At North County Cancer Fitness, our team is more than a board or leadership group — we are a community of survivors, advocates, movers, and dreamers who believe in the healing power of connection, movement, and hope. Led by Carla Going, who stepped into the leadership role with passion and purpose after the loss of our founders, our board blends professional experience with deeply personal dedication. Together, we share a simple—but powerful philosophy: every person affected by cancer deserves a place to move, connect, heal, and thrive.
